About Manali
Manali, the most beautiful destination in the Himalayas is situated at the
altitude of 1,915 meters on the bank of river Beas and is encircled by lush
green forests of deodar and snow capped mountains towering around it. Manali
is visited for its world famous tourist place called Rohtang pass also known
as "Honeymooners place". Manali is the ultimate tourist
destination for the trekking, mountaineering, rafting, skiing, helicopter
skiing etc. Manali lies in the lap of The Kullu valley and is visited by

Getting There
Air : The nearest airport is Bhuntar, which is 52-km from Manali.
From Bhuntar one can take a taxi or a bus to Manali.
Rail : The nearest railway station from here is that of Joginder
Nagar and this narrow gauze railway station is 95-km from Kullu. One can
take a bus or a taxi from Kullu to teach Manali.
Road : Roads connect Manali to other major tourist places in
Himachal as well as in the nearby states. Manali bus stand has two booths,
which enable computerised reservation for buses. There are both private and
state government buses here where tickets can be booked in one month
advance.

Major attractions in Manali
Hidimba Devi Temple : One of the most important temples in the
region, it is a four story wooden temple located in the middle of a forest
called the Dhungiri Van Vihar.
Gadhan Thekchoking Gompa : It dominates the Tibetan area around the
bottom of the Mall in Manali which was built by the Tibetan refugees in the
late 1960's. The Gompa is covered with brightly coloured frescoes, a mid
size Buddhist statute and carries a list of the martyrs killed in occupation
of Tibet of 1987 to 1989.
Nehru Kund : It is a spring of clear, cold water, named after the
late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and is 6-km from Manali on Keylong
road.
Temple Of Manu : Manali is named after the sage Manu who meditated
when he came in this area and slippery stones paths lead through the old
village houses up to the temple of Manu.
