About Kovalam Beach
The Kovalam beach is known as the ' paradise of the south' and is seamed
with palm trees, where one can enjoy a backwater cruise. This beautiful
countryside of Kerala includes three adjacent crescent beaches. The
southernmost one is the Light House Beach which is marked by an outstanding
red-and-white striped lighthouse and is the most popular of the three. The
middle beach is called Hawah. Each morning this beach serves as a base for
the local fisherman. The northern most beach, Samudra, is the least crowded
beach.
Kovalam is one of the most popular beach hangouts in India. A beach filled
with coconut trees and justifying its name which means a grove of coconut
trees.

Air : Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, is about 10 kms away
from Kovalam.
Rail : Thiruvananthapuram central, is about 16 kms away from
Kovalam.

Water Sports : Kovalam is a natural bay offering exciting
opportunities for adventure loving people, they can try their hands on
kayaking, swimming, catamaran ride, parasailing, surfing and skiing. Swim in
the shallow blue water and enjoy a sunbath in the exotic tropical sun to get

Major nearby attractions
Catamaran cruises : Cruises on the country raft are very popular
here. Very recently an innovative tour operating company of Trivandrum has
introduced a new package for marine Angling for deep-sea fishing. Marine
Angling for deep-sea fishing is concentrated near Vizhinjam fishing harbor,
just 4 km away east of Kovalam beach. Surfboards and boogie boards can also
be hired on the beach.
Ayurvedic Massage : At Kovalam various hotels and resorts offer
Ayurvedic massage and treatment. Many Yoga (Indian way of meditation)
centers are also available in Kovalam. Some theaters perform the traditional
Kerala art form, Kathakali and ethnic martial art, Kalarippayattu.
Private Beaches : There are many hotels and resorts in Kovalam which
own private beaches famous for cleanliness and secluded location. Most of
these private beaches are located near Vizhinjam at least 8 km far from
Kovalam.
