About Kollam Beach
With an area of 2579 sq. kms, Thiruvananthapuram is located 71 kms to the
north of Thiruvananthapuram. Kollam is the hub of the country's cashew
trading and processing industry. It is one of the oldest ports on the
Malabar coast and was one of the port of international spice trade. This
beach is situated on the edge of renowned Asthamudi lake, making it the
gateway to magnificent backwaters of Kerala. The eight hour boat trip
between Kollam and Allappuzha is the longest and most exciting experience on
the backwaters of Kerala. In the nearby areas there are some interesting
historic remnants and a number of temples built in the traditional ornate
architectural style.

Thangasseri : This seaside village of historic importance has the
ruins of an old Portuguese fort and churches built in the 18 century. The
Thangasseri Lighthouse is 144 feet height and is open to visitors.
Thirumullavaram beach : This beach is 6 kms north of Kollam and is a
beautiful secluded picnic center.
Mayyand : Mayyand is located 10 kms south of Kollam and is famous
for its shrines and temples. Subramanya temple is the most important of the
nine temples here at Umayanallor.
