Jaisalmer Fort situated in the heart of the Thar desert in the state of
Rajasthan is one most spectacular monument of India for its Golden hue,
which gave the Jaisalmer city the name - the Golden City of India. Seems to
emerge from the golden sand of the Thar desert, this golden fort is a gem in
the tourist map of India.

Architecture and History
Jaisalmer Fort is a architectural splendor consisting of 5 stories
beautified with balconies and windows that exhibit the exquisite artistic
works of Rajput style. Apart from the exceptionally erected havelis, a group
of elegantly carved Jain temples constructed between the 12th and 15th
century are the prime source of attraction here. The majestic walls of the
fort present great views beyond the Old City and adjoining desert.
The Aksya Pole is the entrance gate of the fort and across the road lies
the gate known as Suraj-Pole constructed by Maharawal Bhim. Notably, the
topmost part of the fort is a curvilinear Toran, ornamented with an image of
Sun.
There is a symbol of Ganesh and Sun was instituted in 1679 AD. on the outer
wall between Suraj Pole and the Ganesha Pole. Hawa Pole also named as Wind
Pole was built during the 17th century AD and is a massive gateway girdled
by carved palaces and courtyard.

Getting There
Air : Indian Airlines links Jaisalmer with Jaipur, Jodhpur, Delhi
and Mumbai.
Rail : The Jodhpur Express and the IIJP connect Jaisalmer with
Jodhpur.
Road : All buses start from Hotel Neeraj, which is very conveniently
located. There are frequent deluxe buses to Jodhpur and Bikaner. One can
hire a jeep from the Gandhi Chowk for Khuri or Sam, and share it with others
to split the cost. Autorickshaws and rickshaws are also available in the
city and a bicycle on hire is a nice way to get around the city and these
are available just outside the main gate of the fort.

from railway station and ½ km from the bus stand
Gorbandh palace (Heritage hotel) and is located 2 km from the city centre.
Fort Rajwada ( 5 star hotel ) is located 4 km from airport, 2 km from
railway station and 1 km from bus stand.
